Studio D
Studio D Makers Space

Established in the summer of 2013; Studio D: Design and Fabrication Studio is a prototyping workspace within the Department of Interior Design. This 3000 square foot facility is a Rhino Fab Studio and housed at the new Carnaghi Arts Building. Studio D is home to the department’s traditional woodshop tools, digital fabrication equipment, and undergraduate and graduate furniture design classroom space. Currently, Studio D is focused on the design and fabrication of small and full-scale prototypes of furniture and interior designs that support the three areas of; curriculum development and instruction, research and critical analysis, and product development and material testing. This lab is staffed by Marlo Ransdell, PhD and David Wray, MFA in Tallahassee, FL.

Studio D collectively houses the Studio D workshop (est.2012), Studio 3D lab (est.2017), the Materials and Objects Testing Lab (est.2019), and student workspaces. The mission of Studio D is to provide Interior Design students opportunities for interactive and experiential learning either in or out of the studio. Studio D supports critical thinking through the process of problem identification, context research, ideation, development, and testing of solutions for real world design problems through in person and remote interactions. The equipment, available in person and remotely, at Studio D includes a 4’x4’ Shopbot CNC router, 24”x18” and 40”x28” Epilog laser printers, and 10 Robo 3D printers.
